Apply for Premier's Disaster Relief Funds

Queenslanders affected by the recent devastating floods will receive one-off emergency payments in the first round of relief funding to be distributed from the Premier's Disaster Relief Appeal.

The Chair of the committee responsible for the distribution of appeal funds, The Honourable Dr David Hamill AM, announced payments of $2,000 per adult and $1,000 per child.

To qualify:

  • Floods must have affected a person's principal place of residence; and
  • Flood waters must have gone internally above the level of the floor in the living areas making the home uninhabitable.
  • An application form must be completed and once assessed, the payments would be paid directly into the claimant's bank account.

Centrelink

Australia Government Disaster Recovery Payment (AGDRP)

The AGDRP is a one-off payment for people who have been adversely affected by the flooding that began in November.  If you are eligible, you will receive a one-off payment of $1,000 per adult and $400 for each child under the age of 16. For more information, click here.

Disaster Income Recovery Subsidy

The Disaster Income Recovery Subsidy is a fortnightly payment of up to the maximum rate of existing Newstart Allowance for a period of 13 weeks. The subsidy will be available to those who have experienced a loss of income as a direct result of the flooding and are not currently receiving, or eligible for, any other income support payment.

The subsidy is for employees, small business persons and farmers who can demonstrate they have experienced a loss of income as a direct result of the flooding and severe weather.

Department of Communities

The Department of Communities works in collaboration with community partner agencies, including local councils, to plan a response to community needs following a disaster, so that members of the community are able to recover from the disaster.

The current financial assistance available includes:

  • Personal hardship assistance grant - funds to cover basics such a food, clothing, medical supplies and accommodation
  • Household Contents Grant - to cover essential household contents for those uninsured
  • Structure Assistance Grant - to cover property damage for those uninsured

Some of these payments are means tested.

Some of the other services available to assist disaster-affected individuals in the community may include:

  • Temporary accommodation
  • Assistance to replace some household items lost during the event
  • Assistance with repairs to homes so it is safe and liveable again
  • Help with cleaning up and other practical assistance.

QRAA

QRAA Special Disaster Flood Assistance

Primary producers and small business owners who have suffered direct damage from recent flooding can apply for Special Disaster Flood Assistance grants of up to $5,000. A further grant of up to $20,000 is available depending on the extent of the damage.

Concessional loans up to $250,000

Primary producers and small business owners who have suffered direct damage can also apply for a low interest loan of up to $250,000 under the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Assistance provided by QRAA.  Click here for more information.

Existing QRAA loans

As an additional measure to flood affected primary producers and small business owners, QRAA will consider the deferral of repayments on existing loans for an agreed period.
