The staff at our Warragul office of WHK have had a strong involvement in their community for over 30 years. Participation at any or all of the administrative, financial and active membership levels to support a variety of local sporting and community groups has been significant.
The local sporting clubs figure prominently at our office with no less than 15 football, netball, cricket, lawn bowls and golf clubs at both junior and senior levels being sponsored in some way. Many of our staff are active in these organisations.
Our support in the Warragul community also includes the following organisations:
- West Gippsland Dance Festival (http://www.westgippslanddancefestival.org.au )
- Neerim District Agricultural & horticultural Society
- Warragul Cycling Club - Baw Baw Classic 2011
- KC's School of Dance (http://www.kcsschoolofdance.com.au )

Relay for Life 2012
19 April 2011
As advocates for Relay for Life and the tremendous work carried out by the Australian Cancer Council, WHK were so enthusiastic to beat out our 2010 Relay for Life fundraising total of $10,800, raised by our Warragul ‘Walkers Help Kancer’ team, they got cracking on fund raising initiatives right away!
The most successful fundraising project for the 2012 Relay for Life fundraising drive so far has come from WHK Eastern Vic’s CE, John Nantes. John put himself up for auction, with the WHK Eastern Vic office who raised the most money winning him as their PA For A Day.
Needless to say our Gippsland and outer Eastern suburban offices were abuzz with excitement, keen to subject our CE to remedial tasks as well as helping a very worthy cause!
Offices undertook many fundraising ventures, including bbqs, raffles, office bingo.. The list goes on. Perhaps the most dedicated ideas came from our Sale and Pakenham offices. Sale Principal Trevor Gordijn along with FP Adviser Peter Cook undertook a mammoth bike ride from Sale to Warragul, raising a staggering $1,400! Not to be outdone, Pakenham Principal Paul Pratt and Manager Greg Overdyk, ran from Pakenham to Warragul – over 50kms – and raised over $2,600!
The winners of the PA For A Day auction were of course Pakenham, contributing $2,600 of the total $10,860 raised as part of the auction. To date WHK has raised over $12,000 for the 2012 Baw Baw Relay for Life, quietly optimistic that we will signifantly exceed our goal of raising $21,000 for 2012!
WHK Get In The Christmas Spirit
14 December 2010
The Warragul Office was recently invited by the CEO of the West Gippsland Hospital to assist in sorting, stacking and packing 150 Christmas food and gift hampers for disadvantaged families within our community.
Two teams of staff volunteered their time, attending two sessions which comprised of compiling and sorting the various hampers.
Not only was the project a terrific team building exercise, demonstrating the 'can do' attitudes of the WHK team, but was also a fantastic way of giving back to our local community, and assisting those who need it most.
Walkers Help Kancer
Relay for Life 2010
Participating in the Baw Baw Shire's Relay for Life on March 13 and 14 2010, the team from WHK consisted of 31 registered participants, and walked for 18 hours straight. The event is held not only to raise funds for cancer research, but also to support those currently battling cancer and to remember those loved ones we have lost to the disease.
Thanks to the ongoing support and generosity of the Warragul staff, families and friends, Walkers Help Kancer were able to raise $10,600, making them the highest fundraisers at the Baw Baw event, which, in total, raised $105,000 for the Cancer Council.
In recognition of the tramendous fund raising efforts of the Walkers Help Kancer team, the Cancer Council of Victoria has put forth a recommendation for WHK to be named on a Cancer research grant, a nomination for which WHK is honoured to receive.
The reserach project seeks to study the effect of new drugs currently under development which target the cure of breast and prostate cancer tumours from growing and spreading.
